The Challenge

Regulatory requirements for Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) specify that in case of a flu outbreak, or a disaster at any branch location, bank employees should be able to remotely connect to their bank's LAN network. The need for remote employees to access corporate networks is fueling a strong demand for virtual private networks (VPNs). However, this is only part of the solution. Security built on static, reusable passwords has proven easy for hackers to compromise. The authentication process for remote access through the public Internet is critical as a porous design can open your bank to external threats unless best practices and dual authentication are used.

The BITS Solution

The BITS RSA (Remote Secure Access) product helps banks implement a low-cost, high value solution to protect private information and manage the identities of people and applications while accessing and exchanging private information remotely. Our hosted access management through dual authentication is an ideal complement to a remote network connection. These features enhance the security of remote access to email and files available on the internal corporate network.

BITS remote secure access simplifies configuration and deployment by using preconfigured RSA tokens. The BITS RSA SecurID two-factor authentication is based on something you know (a PIN), something you have (an RSA SecurID authenticator which generates a code every 60 seconds), and something you have installed on a computer (VPN client software). This is a highly secure and cost-effective user authentication solution as compared to single authentication with reusable passwords.
