The Challenge

Recent man-made and natural disastrous events have clearly demonstrated the fact that telecommunication networks are vulnerable. Bank infrastructure is often dependent on a single network connection with no backup system. Entire branch offices can be without data service if an area is damaged by fire, natural disaster, or simply a local network outage.

Disaster recovery and business continuity plans are regulatory requirements that require senior management and board members to identify, assess, prioritize, manage and control risks related to their data communications infrastructure. Before disaster strikes, it is important to have a plan in place that can be put into action. Community banks also have to make sure their plans are enterprise-wide, and keep these plans updated as business processes and/or network designs change.

The BITS Solution

BITS can help our community bank customers to establish a back-up plan for data network connectivity and comply with federal requirements. By implementing a BNC - Backup Network Connection for each branch location, community banks will instantly recover their data communications infrastructure from a disaster with continued operations and maintained revenue streams. The BNC offers a redundant communication connection from each branch through alternate physical connections, which reduces single points of failure for the telecommunications infrastructure.

The BNC can help community banks establish their encrypted emergency backup route using a Cable, DSL, or other broadband connection. This will enable an alternate path back to our data centers in the case of a loss of the primary MPLS connection, and therefore connectivity to all branches within your organization as well as your core processor, Internet access, ATM services and other services connected through BITS.

In the event of a circuit failure somewhere between one of your branches and the MPLS network, the Cisco Integrated Services Router at the disconnected branch will automatically failover to the BNC connection within seconds, establish an encrypted VPN tunnel over the Internet back to our data centers in Harrisburg, PA and Newark, NJ. Recovering your data communications is therefore not dependent on any human interaction.
